# Al-Ihsan Trust > Al-Ihsan Trust is a UK registered charity (No. 1152441) helping orphans, widows and families in need in Sri Lanka since the 2004 tsunami. Al-Ihsan Trust Sri Lanka (AITS) has worked in Sri Lanka since the tsunami struck the island in December 2004. At first the work was on a small scale, led by our founder and trustee, Mr Nissther Annis. He decided that much more had to be done for the poor and needy of the island, and in January 2013 the charity was formed with the help of the late Dr Aziz Pasha, Secretary General of the Union of Muslim Organisations in the United Kingdom. Our mission is to tackle poverty and bring a sense of normality back to the lives of orphans, widows and families affected by natural disasters and chronic poverty. ## Key facts - Registered name: Al Ihsan Trust Sri Lanka (also written Al Ihsan Trust, Al-Ihsan Trust Sri Lanka, AITS) - Charity Commission for England and Wales, registered charity No. 1152441: https://register-of-charities.charitycommission.gov.uk/en/charity-search/-/charity-details/1152441 - Working in Sri Lanka since: December 2004.
