Since the tsunami

Al-Ihsan Trust Sri Lanka (AITS) has worked in Sri Lanka since the tsunami struck the island in December 2004. At first the work was on a small scale, led by our founder and trustee, Mr Nissther Annis. He decided that much more had to be done for the poor and needy of the island, and in January 2013 the charity was formed with the help of the late Dr Aziz Pasha, Secretary General of the Union of Muslim Organisations in the United Kingdom.

Since the charity was founded we have supported vulnerable orphans and widows, education, water wells, Ramadan food parcels, Qurbani and free eye and medical clinics, and we have built new masjids and helped restore run-down ones.

Vision

Our vision is that everyone should have a decent place to live, good health, an education and a livelihood. We aim to root out extreme poverty in the lives of the most vulnerable, empowering them to build a future free from dependence on aid and from injustice. We believe this can become reality if we all join hands in following the teaching of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) in helping the poor and needy.

Mission

Our mission is to tackle poverty and bring a sense of normality back to the lives of orphans, widows and families affected by natural disasters and chronic poverty.

Message from the Chairman

It is a great pleasure to write this message for the Al-Ihsan Trust website. The Trust is still young, yet it has already achieved a tremendous amount of charity work in Sri Lanka.

On this website you will find the projects we have delivered since January 2013. None of them would have been possible without the help of the Almighty, your prayers and your generous donations. We are thankful to Allah (swt), and then to our partners, donors, supporters and volunteers, who have joined us in wiping away the tears of orphans and bringing smiles to widows.

We have provided more than 2,000 food hampers to the needy during Ramadan, and during Hajj we regularly help to sacrifice and distribute Qurbani meat, mainly to widows and orphanages.
